The South African Finishing Artists and Imaging Technicians Society (SAFAITS) is dedicated to advancing the careers of our members by offering comprehensive, in-person masterclasses. These courses, taught by leading industry professionals, focus on practical skills that can be directly applied to real-world projects. Our masterclasses cover the full spectrum of professions within SAFAITS, including Digital Intermediate Colourists, Digital Imaging Technicians (DITs), Online Editors, VFX Artists, Compositors, QC & Delivery Editors. While our masterclasses are paid courses, SAFAITS is committed to accessibility and goes above and beyond to ensure affordability for all members through significant discounts.
✅ Highlights of Our Past Masterclasses Include:
📍 The Ultimate Colourists Masterclass
A two-day, in-person training led by renowned industry expert Paul Hanrahan, designed for intermediate to advanced colourists ready to push boundaries in colour grading and visual storytelling. Topics covered included:
- The business aspect of being a colourist and the state of the market in 2025.
- The role of colour in storytelling, colour design theory, and collaboration with production teams.
- Basics and advanced concepts in colour theory, including the human visual system and colour spaces.
- Look design, grading methods for various production types, and colour management workflows.
- Integration of visual effects, versioning for different formats, and next-generation tools like DCTLs.
The sessions were conducted at Mushroom Media Post Production facilities in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with limited spots to ensure personalized attention. Participants received a Certificate of Attendance with the SAFAITS seal during a mini-ceremony on the second day.
